Sarah Silverman Talks Judaism on “Bill Maher”

By Jewcy Staff / March 29, 2009

"I have no religion, and yet I have been… the Jews love me. I’m good for the Jews. There’s nothing I can do that makes me not good for the Jews, especially after that Great Shlep thing. I could, honestly… I could deny the existence of the Holocaust, I could accept Jesus as my savior, and they would still be like ‘You know that Jew for Jesus who said the Holocaust didn’t happen? Jewish.’"

-Sarah Silverman, during an appearance on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher

Yes, that "love" of mine for Hitchens was definately not carnal, and was most certainly sarcastic.

I will agree with him that women don’t have to be as funny as guys in order to land themselves a date.  I’ll also agree that many more men than women choose to go into the field of stand-up comedy.  But I really believe that it’s hard for a funny gal to excel at stand-up because the best jokes are blue, and sociologically it’s tough for the audience (particularly the guys in the audience) to concentrate on the message and not the messenger when looking at woman.  Actually, it just now happened to occur to me– several of the most popular female comics do have a pretty good gay male following.  I’m telling you, there is something to this theory.

I happened to see that "Isaac" is your pseudonym.  "Isaac" is Hebrew for "He will laugh".  It’s also the name I happened to give to my second son.  "BrookeLynn" is also a pen name.  My birth name happens to be something very German.  I’m a German-Jew.  And in reply to your earlier query, you can feel very safe jumping into a shower with me.
