The Secret is a self-help phenomenon: it's no. 1 in its category on the New York Times bestseller list, the DVD is no. 1 on Amazon, and its cadre of experts has appeared on every major talk show from Oprah to Larry King. Jewcy's Rebecca DiLiberto is playing test chump--er, chimp--to see if The Secret really works. She'll log her progress regularly on
Faithhacker as she completes the program. Meanwhile, have a looksee for yourself.

It's obvious that self-confidence and vision allow people to accomplish much more in their lives, but the mechanism (a charitable term for what they describe) is a complete fabrication. It's just a bunch of pseudoscientific terms casually thrown around by people with dubious qualifications. What's a "metaphysician" supposed to be, anyway? Maybe they got tired of calling all the people philosophers. Or maybe they just wanted a qualification with deceptive similarity to "physician."
Calling it "The Law of Attraction" makes it sound like it has scientific credence, which it doesn't. Calling it "The Secret" is simply sensationalistic.
