I'll write in English, if that's easier for everybody, but maybe we should all switch back to Spanish, because I'm as confused by this thread as Jzeballo was. Do "Rob" and "Shooting Sparks" write Spanish? If so, I wish they would, so I could take their meaning better. Ya solo puedo decir que me caen muy mal.
Who wrote these gringo rules that if I'm Jewish and Latino I have to be a right-winger and hate Hugo Chavez or be supportive of the worst aspects of Uribe. I live in Panama but I watch Caracol and RCN every day and I know that Uribe's best instincts come when he's not afraid of how the gringos will respond. There are aspects of Hugo Chavez I don't like such as I think he's been in power too long and hasn't done enough political party builiding or promoting of his back benchers. There are a lot of things I like about him, too. I like that he uses modern fiscal and monetary tools despite all his rhetoric and his obsession with balacing budgets and fighting inflation have allowed him a surplus and a strong currency such that he can do a little direct transfer aid to the poorest.
Jzeballo is right. We're a diverse community with all sorts of ideas and involved in all sorts of endeavors.
