Judy Gold is an unreasonably tall Jewish lesbian and the star of the one-woman off-Broadway show 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother, wherein Judy grapples with Jewish motherhood and daughterhood by interrogating hapless Jewish mothers from around the USA. The New York Times calls 25 Qs “fiercely funny, honest and moving.”
Judy was born at Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. As a child, Judy’s feet were already so preposterously large that they required her to travel to New York City to find shoes that fit. This was just as well, because Newark was filled with lots of gossipy white people, and Judy—a gigantic and obnoxious band nerd with orthopaedic-looking shoes—didn’t fare well in such an environment. She was mocked relentlessly, but deep down she knew she was totally cool.
Later, Judy graduated from high school, then from Rutgers College, then finally fulfilled her dream of moving to New York City, where she was able to find a wide range of suitably enormous shoes, as well as to pursue stand-up comedy. Eventually she won two Emmy Awards for writing and producing The Rosie O’Donnell Show, was nominated twice for The American Comedy Awards’ Funniest Female Stand-Up award, appeared on Law & Order, Law & Order SVU, The View, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and did all kinds of other stuff that looks really sweet on her CV.
