About Leo King

Leo King, a native of Quincy, Massachusetts, has resided in Australia since 1993. He has been a Director of Jewish Studies for day schools in Sydney and Perth and has been active on many different occasions in adult education programmes, workshops, retreats and lectures both within the Jewish community and the community at large. He has also served on the Syllabus Committee of the Curriculum Council of W.A. for the Beliefs and Values courses from 1998 - 2003. In 1981 he began an eight-year period of study in the Zans-Klausenberg Talmudic Academy, in the picturesque Galilean town of Safed, Israel, attaining his rabbinic certification in 1987 in conjunction with the Iyun Hatalmud College of Monsey, N.Y. In addition to directing the Etz Chaim Programme of Jewish Studies in Safed for newcomers to their Jewish heritage, Leo was concurrently involved with educational programmes designed for the integration of immigrants from Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union .Leo's specialty is the study of kabbalah and the traditions of the great Jewish mystics, including various types of Jewish meditation. He is also a leading expert on the Talmudic and kabbalistic perspectives on astrology and is well acquainted with Sufi, Buddhist, Hindu, Taoist and other eastern wisdom traditions and how these compare to esoteric Jewish philosophy.Leo has spoken to diverse communal and public organizations in Western Australia including the Australian Islamic College, the WA Theosophical Society, the Charles Gardner Hospital Medical Ethics Seminar, the Regional Deputy Principals’ Conference, the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism and in numerous schools and colleges throughout the state.  He is currently working with Thunderbox TV and Artemis International on a documentary project treating the subject of mystical practices in Australia with emphasis on kabbalah.
