“Anonymous” Force Wages War on Scientology
By Null / February 10, 2008Have you heard of Anonymous? Anonymous is a clandestine group that has positioned itself in direct and unyielding opposition to the Church of Scientology. The group recently launched an attack on the official Scientology website, temporarily shutting it down, and has been accused of prank calls, "black fax" transmissions, and allegedly sending "suspicious" white powder to various Scientology offices. Their YouTube page features three mysterious videos that present their official message to Scientology, their call to action, and their code of conduct for protests.
Anonymous has denounced the Church of Scientology as a dangerous cult guilty of fraud, human rights offenses, and murder. "We want you to know about Lisa McPherson," they've declared. "We want you to know about former members of Scientology's private navy, SeaOrg, who were forced to have abortions so that they could continue in service to the church. We want you to know about Scientology's use of child labor and their gulags."
Their next step: Organized protest events are planned for February 10th, 11:00am (local times) at all Church of Scientology locations worldwide.

While getting a sandwhich in Dupont Circle DC yesterday, I noticed these freaks with masks (think "Scream") cavorting around the Scientology building, which is about 100 yards from the Potbelly where I was getting my lunch. I left Potbelly to walk back to my car, and on the way I stopped to read a weird anti-scientology bumper sticker on one of the cars nearby. Then out of nowhere, this masked freak yells to me:Â
"Did you get that license plate? Did you? Yeah, I recognize you…don't think I don't recognize you!". I kept walking, because at first I didn't even realize this shithead was talking to me. But then it was clear that he WAS talking to me (or screaming, really). But whatever, I had things to do and a hot sandwhich to eat. So as I am getting into my car, still thinking "who the fuck are these weirdos", the same guy drives past my car. He slowed down, honked, waived, and what not, basically taunting me.
I have to admit, this whole scene freaked me out. The guy was in a mask, I had no way of identifying him, but yet he was harrassing me and making me feel very uncomfortable. Ironically, he thought I was some Scientology spy, simply because I paused to read his bumper sticker? Isn't the point of a bumper sticker to grab people's attention and spread a message? And apparently I look like someone in the Scientology movement!?!?! WTF!?!?
I was truly scared. If I hadn't been in my car already, I think my "fight or flight" reaction would have been to beat the hell out of this guy and then hold him until the police came. If I see these guys again, I am going to give them a piece of my mind. And it isn't out of defense for Scientology, that's for sure. But wearing a mask and harrasing people in public is just creepy and wrong. Period.
4chan, ebaums, everything from lj to youtube. It's pretty funny, I think.
I admit, I could see some sort of revolution happening for.. well, for the lulz.
