In these photographs, men and women are placed in locker rooms and bathrooms in staged narratives. The narratives reference Lacan's mirror stage: the point in infant development in which the child recognizes him or herself in the mirror as a whole entity instead of part of his or her mother—or in this case—peer group. Functioning as literal mirror-stages, locker rooms and bathrooms are used in the photographs as sites of mimicry and performance; the self is performed and peers are mimicked in these private/public spaces.
