Diet Riot: Hey Fatty, Your Dog is Fat Too

Too Many Treats: too few walks. sound familiar?Too Many Treats: too few walks. sound familiar? As Americans get fatter and fatter, their pets are expanding with them: an estimated 50 percent of America's total pet population is apparently dangerously overweight. Unsurprisingly, many pet owners are dealing with their furry friends' fatness much in the same way they deal with their own: diet pills or, in the case of Slentrol, liquid prescription weight-loss meds.

If, like me, you think that giving an otherwise healthy dog weight-loss meds sounds dim-witted and lazy, then perhaps you'll be more enthused about this novel idea: exercise videos for dogs and cats. Yup: if you log on to PetFit.com, you'll find tips and videos demonstrating workouts like "Fetch Races" and "Light Cardio," which involves jumping "an invisible rope while holding flashlights in your hands." Your fat cat will frantically chase the light beam while you get your heart rate up. Hell, it sounds entertaining--advertise it as a show and charge for tickets.

Heavyweight Pooch

Makes sense we'd treat overweight pets the same way we treat our own bodies. It's just too bad so many people reach for the latest "magic pill" instead of their gym shoes.

screw you both

anybody who thinks its ok to start a sentence with Hey Fatty, can kiss my ass, you are a bitch and no one should listen to your snobby view point, there are people out there that don't have feet to put shoes on to go running with their dogs and i guess you two people have decided they are undeserving of animal affection or if their animals have put on some pounds they are undeserving of meds that would help them lose the weight, nice to know we have such loving, concerned people out there to judge and decided what is best for the rest of us

Nailed it

Yes, surely Helen was referring to those lazy, footless dog owners. It's like.. Get a job, people without feet! ...Y'know? Blind people too. "Blindies" I call them. Get jobs, blindies.
