Street Artist Swoon Returns to New York

New York street artist Swoon is known for her life size wheat paste prints and paper cutouts of figures. She is also known for altering public billboards and starting street parties. Swoon studied painting at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and started doing street art in the late 90’s. Her works tend to depict people in her life—friends, family, anyone she finds interesting. Because Swoon’s street art is considered by many (including the NYPD) to be vandalism, she has kept her birth name unknown to the public. Rather than other average graffiti artists, and because of her studies at Pratt, Swoon's work is heavily influenced by art school teachings. Graffiti art is often thought of as vandalism, but street art, which is also completed on personal property without permission, has received lots of publicity and credibility. Street artists like Swoon are becoming time-based public artwork worthy of New York Times articles. Swoon’s works are appealing to even the average pedestrian and are appreciated by many people passing by, as well as art critics. Her recent work keeps us on the edge of our seats, waiting for more.
