Poem of the Day: "Office Friendships" |
|
by Michael Weiss, February 4, 2009 |
||
Eve is madly in love with Hugh
And Hugh is keen on Jim.
Charles is in love with very few
And few are in love with him.
Myra sits typing notes of love
With romantic pianist's fingers.
Dick turns his eyes to the heavens above
Where Fran's divine perfume lingers.
Nicky is rolling eyes and tits
And flaunting her wiggly walk
Everybody is thrilled to bits
By Clive's suggestive talk.
Sex suppressed will go berserk,
But it keeps us all alive.
It's a wonderful change from wives and work.
And it ends at half past five.

Are meant to guess, in poeme a clef fashion, which characters represent which Jewcy personnel?
I'm saying Jim is Craig, but mum's the word re Hugh. And photos of whoever Nicky is, please. Stat.
A tip of the tarboush to whoever paired the poem with the painting. Lovely.

"What do you call what's above the subtext?" "The text." "Okay, that's right, but they never talk about that." -Barcelona
You've been around how long and haven't hipped to the fact that I'd sooner post about our hothouse office environment using actual names?
Will take credit for the painting pairing, though. Thanks.

I spent more time than is reasonable, a few weeks ago, trying to come up with analogues in our group to NBC's "The Office" while I was trying to fall asleep.
Todd got Toby and Lilit got Meredith. Because Meredith's an alcoholic. Weiss, the jury's out on you, still.

So can we do a poem of the day every day? Because I'd be totally down with that.
...I even have a somewhat nerd-level collection of poetry, including some Hebrew poems that have been translated... Right, walking away now.

...these friendships. They sound more like fantasies to me. Word to the wise: your coworkers are not your friends they are your coworkers. Remember? So keep it professional.
