Obama Gets Some Weiner

By Jewcy Staff / March 16, 2010

Democratic Congressman, former roommate of Jon Stewart, and dude who will never be mayor, Rep. Anthony Weiner, took President Obama to task for what the representative sees as the White House mishandling the ongoing construction of settlements in Israel:

"The appropriate response was a shake of the head – not a temper tantrum," Weiner said in a statement to be released shortly.  "Israel is a sovereign nation and an ally, not a punching bag. Enough already."

There is a simple justification for the barrier running between Israel and parts of Gaza and the West Bank. That justification lies in the drop in the number of deaths and acts of terrorism that were the result of its erection. Human lives are more valuable than farms. This argument, of course, is premised on the view that the conflict between Israel, Fatah and Gaza is intractable. The primary causes of this intractability lie in the structure of Palestinian society, which is essentially totalitarian in nature and hence unable to adapt itself, learn from its mistakes or govern itself efficiently and humanely. Its primary interest is the self-preservation of its leadership, not the wellbeing of its people.

It is wrong to state that Israeli policy is a "big stick" to every used against "provocation[s]." Israeli policy is devised according to what its leaders think is best for their country. The Palestinians have declared war on Israel. They are implacably opposed to its existence. The Israeli public thought that negotiating with a tyrant known as Arafat and his petty nomenklatura would lead to a negotiated outcome to this conflict. It bet on that horse a few times, not least by voting Labour into power on that basis prior to the intifada. The Israeli public tolerated, even implicitly accepted, the decision of its Labor government to allow Arafat to govern the West Bank and Gaza until the intifada. Arafat had previously made it his practice to kill Israelis for sport, but no matter: now he was a partner in peace. Tell me: is the Israeli public’s decision to accept Oslo, in light of the bombings and shootings committed by Arafat and Fatah, a sign of a "big stick" policy? Was it all just part of a devious plan to get all the Fatah supporters in one place for a big showdown? What about the aid money, tax, not to mention weaponry, which Israel supplied to Fatah, so that it might establish a "government"? What about the aid money it allowed other countries to give it? The Olmert government even permitted Fatah members to receive military training in Jordan after the beginning of an intifada Fatah itself declared, and after hundreds of people had died by Fatah gunmen and suicide bombers. Is that a "big stick" policy, in response to "provocations"? A policy directed towards Fatah’s destruction? A punishment? An act designed to instil fear?

Also, it is wrong to judge Evangelical Christians for thinking that Jews will go to hell for refusing to believe in Christ. People think all sorts of funny things and we don’t judge them for it.

Shtetl Stilleto – — We are sick of you and the "end the occupation" crowd ignorance of history.

East Jerusalem is Israel’s capital the land of which was won in a defensive war. Jews are sick of dying for Tikuning an Olam that despises our very existence, so the wall that saves countless Jewish and Arab lives from the Islamo-wakos of HAMAS will stay up.

We’re sick of that "Berlin" wall. We’re sick of the faux concept of "natural growth" in the settlements because who the fuck should have 14 children. We’re sick of the continuing annexation of East Jerusalem.  We’re sick of the big stick response to every provocation. We’re sick of our fanatical Jewish brothers and sisters who think they have a right to Judea and Samaria because it says so in the Torah.  We’re sick of the outright theft of land. We’re sick of being stereotyped and lumped in with AIPAC and the rest of
the neocons. We’re sick of the Evangelical Christians who "want to help" but they really want to provoke some kind of fucking Armegeddon, so they can have a happy ending to their fairy tale – oh, and by the way, they’re sure we’re going to hell when it happens.
