Anousheh Ansari is 24 hours into her voyage as the world’s first female space tourist. As Jewcy’s ambassador to Tehrangeles, I can confirm that Ansari has become quite the rock star of Iranian America. I’m getting hit from all directions with forwarded e-mails celebrating her accomplishment.

Alan Boyle at CosmicLog has a good run-down of the issues swirling around Ansari’s space flight. Ansari is a hit with both the Iranian Space Agency, which is tracking her mission, and with Iranian expats in America who love her for her campaign to wear the pre-1979 Iranian flag on her space suit. The Russian and American space agencies, though, forbade Ansari from wearing the flag on her suit, although they did let the Iranian colors onto her mission patch. Of the refusal to let her wear the Iranian flag, Rick Tumlinson of the Space Frontier Foundation says “it's the stupidest damn thing I've ever heard.”
