Matt Litman: Does Sarah Palin Know Any Jews?

The Alaska Jewish population is 3,425. 3,425. There are more Jews at Zabar's this morning than live in Alaska. Let me ask you a question: how many of those Jewish people in Alaska do you think Sarah Palin has met, talked to, encountered?Palin inspires the Gentile massesPalin inspires the Gentile masses

You can tell me that Sarah Palin has met other Jews in her travels, but she has not traveled. Not only has she hardly traveled abroad, even though she can see Russia from her window, but she has hardly traveled domestically.

One of the reasons Sarah Palin is so frightening is because her frame of reference appears to be so narrow. It would be one thing if she worked in Alaska but traveled extensively to get to know the country or the world. But she has chosen not to - which is her choice, and I respect it. Except for the fact that she wants to possibly run the country, and I am a citizen of this country, and Sarah Palin does not know people who share my background.

Another reason Palin is so scary is because not only has she not traveled, but she does not seem in the least bit curious. She may or may not read; it's hard to get a straight answer from her. She only seems to read back what's written for her, so it's hard to tell what she really thinks or really knows. If you're from a small state, far from the rest of the country, and you hardly read or travel, does that seem like a person you'd want representing you in the White House? Or does that seem like someone who, I don't know, should educate themselves in America before they try to represent America?

Matt Litman needs to grow a pair of balls.

"Sarah Palin is so frightening" ......"Palin is so scary"

Wait, he just found his balls, and huge balls at that by stating:

There is an enormous paranoia about Obama in the Jewish community

Apparently no paranoia about evil Sarah Palin.

Matt Liman goes on:

If you're from a small state (an intersting way to describe Alaska which is the largest state in the Union) far from the rest of the country....

Well his holiness Barak Obama was actially born in a small state far from the country called Hawaii (no not in the south side of Chicago as many of his more ignorant  supporters think, which is most of them).

And Litman qoutes another hand wringer, One person said to me that after the Georgia crisis, he was going to go McCain because McCain seemed safer on foreign policy. But when McCain picked Palin, he thought, "Are you kidding?

McCain and Palin are of one mind about the invasion of Georgia by Russia (you remember, that country that Palin can see from her house. She had that in common with hundreds of dead Georgian who could also see Russia from their house at one time). Obama called for restraint on both sides. That line will come in handy when Iran gets its first nuke.

Hey, Matt! You really want to piss yourself with worry. Think about the hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contribution going to Obama from foreign outfits including a big chunk from the Gaza Strip and West Bank. The details of this we will not find out until its too late.

Thanks to Jake Rake for providing the comic relief.

A few weeks ago, NPR's Robert Siegel asked Philip Roth if there were still any kosher butchers around. Made me wonder if Mr. Siegel knew any Jews.

Incidentally, I have never met any Zoroastrians, but I think I'd be totally fine with them.

All of this provincial paranoia about Alaska and Jews reminds me of a recent novel.

The Yiddish Policemen's Union is a multiple award-winning novel by American author Michael Chabon. The novel is an alternate history detective story based on the premise that during World War II, a temporary Yiddish-speaking settlement for Jewish refugees was established in Alaska in 1941. It also incorporates the (fictional) destruction of the State of Israel in 1948 after an unsuccessful struggle for independence. It takes place in a fictionalized version of the real city of Sitka.

Hat Tip: Winki

When I first heard about this novel on NPR (National Pretentious Radio), I cannot help but think they would have prefered that outcome.

It's not important whether she knows any Jews.  All you need to know is that she supports Israel . . . mostly because it's what she's told to do.   But whatever.  It doesn't matter.  You can ignore everything else.  You can ignore the hate-mongering rallies where she incites mobs of neuron-deprived and pitch-fork yeilding "patriots".  You can ignore her stupidity.  You can ignore her support for secessionist political parties.  You can ignore her zeal to unlawfully enlarge the powers of the executive branch and to turn her office into a secretive den run by inbred family members.  You can ingore her penchant to eliminate civil liberties and freedoms in the name of "national security".  But as a Jew, the thing you should ignore most, is that her base, the people that love her, are the people that chant "kill him", "terrorist", "muslim" today and will just as quickly and gladly blame the Jews tomorrow.  In fact, with the economy the way it is, it won't be long before this economic mess really hits "mainstreet" and the Palin base starts pointing their fingers at their favorite scapegoat.  But don't worry about any of that.  She's great, really.  She's just the thing America needs.

I guess Palin attending several Bar Mitzvahs is really important to some people.

True, there are not many Jews in Alaska but the Jews there are probably the strong rugged individualist types. Think of John Goodman's gun weilding character Walter in "The Big Lebowski" (I don't roll on Shabbos!). These are the types of Jews Palin knows and she probably gets along great with them. In fact, I hate to tell her we are all not like that but I am sure she has discovered that by now.

And then there is Barack Obama. He has come in contact with lots of Jews however what makes you so sure he is very fond of them. White people in general don't fare very well in his books and he is much too slick a politician to name the Jews explicitly. And we know how his pastor of 20 years, Rev. Wright feels about the Jooos.

In fact, there are many lefty Jews who hate Israel and Jews as well.

Even the most radical right-wing pro-Israel Rabbi of recent times, Meir Kahane famously said, "I don't hate Arabs, I love Jews and that's not easy".

Of course this was before he was murdered by Arabs to the great relief and satisifaction of many lefty Jews.

In short, all this Palin hates Jews crap is BS.
