Jewish Community Heroes Semifinalists Announced…

By Jewcy Staff / October 13, 2009

The United Jewish Federation’s Jewish Community Heroes contest just announced their 20 semifinalists in the video I have included below.

So, if 3/4ths of our Jewish Community Heroes are affiliated with Chabad, who will represent the rest of us?

this is what happens when you let people vote more than once.

when a website I visit suggested their readers to vote more than once for their proposed candidate, it seemed rather unethical for me, and made me question whether their agenda synched with mine.

Can the success of the chabadniks be attributed to their superior resources and ability to create voting blocs?  Or are they simply more active in the community than the rest of us?  There are some amazing individuals involved in chabad who do some very good work and it’s right that they should be recognised and rewarded for this.  I just feel a little uneasy about their rigid adherence to their interpretation of halacha which excludes and alienates a vast swathe of the jewish population.  What unsettles me more is the possibility that they are the future of judaism.
