    Gen. Petraeus recently said
“Arab anger over the Palestinian question limits the strength and depth
of US partnerships with governments and peoples in the [Middle East] and
weakens the legitimacy of moderate regimes in the Arab world.”

Is it any surprise that people in the US believe that US support of Israel made America a target of Islamic fundamentalism?  When they burn flags in the Muslim world they’re usually burning the Stars and Stripes (of both nations that is) it is easy to become confused, but it is certanly not the reason to stop supporting the only reliable partner in the Middle East.

I have the greatest respect of Gen. Petraeus, but I do not understand what ‘governments’ he insinuates would make US’ partners? Jordan’s Hashemite monarchs? If Israel did not maintain a presence (covert) in Jordan the monarchy would long have given way to something like the West Bank PA. The Egyptians? Muslim Brotherhood is gaining strength there by the day!
