Shvitzing Russian Bears Scare Locals

InsomniacInsomniacThe bears in Southwestern Siberia have not gone into hibernation yet because the weather is too warm, and their consequential meanderings are scaring locals, Reuters reports. They normally tuck into warm, dry dens around October-November, but it's been too hot and moist for them to find suitable "bedrooms." So they're roaming around and munching on twigs and berries to build up body fat for the hibernation.

As long as the food supply remains plentiful the locals shouldn't worry too much about maulings, the article reports. Hunters "stalking birds and hares" may need protection though, which is why Russian environmental officials have hired observers to monitor the hunting woods. Hmmmm... Bear versus "observer"...

I did see a giant bear hanging out with a naked cowboy in Times Square just yesterday. Perhaps some have slipped into transatlantic crates and need to be shipped back to their native land via first class. Caviar anyone?
