Make Your Own Rosh Hashana Cards

TAGS:
I am all about sending New Years cards before the High Holidays, but I’m not all about paying Hallmark insane amounts of money for lame little notecards with a shofar and a Jewish star on them. I have sixty people I want to send cards to this year, and even though I’m not exactly Miss Crafty I figured that I could buy some supplies at a craft store and make them myself for cheaper than it would cost to buy them. Here’s how to make cards like mine:

Have A Sweet New YearHave A Sweet New Year

1. Cut out some cool words and phrases from magazines. You’ll use these on the inside of your card.

2. Find some rubber stamps and ink pads at a paper or craft store. I chose an apple, a bee, some leaves, and “blessing words” like free, journey, hope, believe, explore and so on, plus ink in black, dark red and copper. Try out various plans for the front of your card.stamp-edestamp-ede

3. Make a mock up of your card on a piece of scratch paper.best laid plansbest laid plans

4. Lay out a bunch of blank cards, and start stamping.Knock 'em OutKnock 'em Out

5. Once you’ve stamped everything, hold it in front of the air conditioner for a few seconds to dry the ink. Or You Could Blow On Them YourselfOr You Could Blow On Them Yourself

6. Lay the cards out and let them dry for at least an hour before stamping the inside.

7. Meanwhile, make a mockup of the inside of the cars. I chose one of my blessing words, one of my magazine cut outs, and one of a few fortunes I found on a fotune cookie stamp (my favorite fortune says, “You Have Long Been Loved By The One You Least Expect). It's What's Inside That CountsIt's What's Inside That Counts

8. Stamp the inside of each card. Give it a couple more hours to dry completely.Stamp AgainStamp Again

9. Fold, write message, and mail!Signed, Sealed, DeliveredSigned, Sealed, Delivered

either you can do that or have Bob Dylan send an e-card instead. That's what I did. Ema loved it.
