Introspection Yellow - Cheryl Pascaul

I aim to 'tickle': to remind people of something vaguely familiar, to leave a positive impression and elicit an emotion, to invoke a memory, to tease out a thought or start a discussion, to tell a story or draw out a smile.

My art follows similar rules and patterns to those found in nature. I use repeating patterns and let the work organically grow. Above all I try to listen to my instincts and let the art flow. No line is a ‘mistake’; it’s just a natural step in the painting’s evolution. My latest series, Darwinian Mixed Media is a series of paintings that has morphed over the last several years. Starting as acrylic paintings, then digitally photographed and altered, printed on canvas, and finally revisited with touches of metallic paints and gold leading dots (from 6 to 5,000 of them!). In the end I create completely different pieces and when I show people the original seed painting they are surprised at how far the new piece evolved.

To me, the art is in the act of making it, sharing it with others, and in the viewer’s response and interaction with the piece. Let me know what you think…so that we may inspire each other…
