This article was thoroughly enjoyable.

You might get a kick out of reading a similar but more seriously minded article by Paul Gallico (New York Daily News) about the Hebrews and Basketball from way back when.   What was serious then is good satire now.  Sorry couldn't find a good link with a few minutes searches but with Jewcy's vast resources it shouldn't be a problem to find.

Praise the resistance!  We are all hizbollah now.

Nice set of articles.  I'm glad you put Nicholas Noe in there too otherwise I wouldn't have understood how the latest events are actually the results of the short sighted US policy. I'm still not sure how Israel is to blame for this but I'm sure the leftist pundits and arab apologists will figure out the angle in a day or two.

Ever since I saw Carl "The Truth" Williams get knocked out by Mike Tyson in the first round, I've been skeptical about anyone or anything claiming that is is the "Truth". I've had no reason since then to change my opinion. Whether it be Ayn Rand speaking about the "the truth about Marxism" or Ronald reagan revealing the "truth about communism" or the guys wandering around New York City speaking about the "truth behind 9-11", someone claiming the "truth" invariably spews forth an invective rant or conspiracy theory (except in the case of Carl Williams where he really didn't do anything).

These rants are often interesting as a curious study of the abandonment of objectivity and the use of propaganda and are often useful in understanding the minds and beliefs of extremists. In this light, I too recommend this book as well as:

Reefer Madness: "The truth about Marijuana"

Fitna: "The truth about Islam" (also read the "Truth about Muhammad")

"Why we hate Jews" : The truth about the Talmud

Jewcy's own "Fowl Play" : the truth about Thanksgiving

and of course the staples: "The truth about the moon landing", "911truth.org", and "the truth about area 51".

I'm Jewish. I used to have five brothers but I ate four of them. I now have one brother but I'm planning on eating him soon. I also have information regarding sexual abuse in synagogues and jewish dayschools throughout the country. I'm going to post all the details on my website.

I watch American Idol. At least the second half of the season when the talented contestants have already been chosen. The first half of the show profiles the people who audition for the show and they can roughly be broken down into three categories: Talented people who are trying to make the cut; people who do something absurd or ridiculous in order to get on to TV; and people who are picked by the producers so that they can be mocked and ridiculed on a national stage. The last category is modern television at its worst. It is cruel and malicious and caters to the basest of human emotion. In magnitude, last week's article was nowhere near as bad as American idol. Jewcy's stage is much smaller than Fox's. However, in spirit and intent, it was similar.

Almond, you are wrong. The true meaning of a holiday is contained in how and what is celebrated. Chanukkah is as much a celebration of suicide murdering as Thanksgiving is a celebration of the genocide of the American Indians. Some people might celebrate the genocide of the Indians at their Thanksgiving dinners (ala Robert Jensen) but to most people it is a holiday that honors generosity, gratitude and charity. If you and your wife celebrate Chanukkah by revering the brutality of war and the murder of innocents you are free to do so but it's clear that your wife missed some crucial ideas in her conversion process and that you learned nothing about Judaism when you were raised. Note also that when you are basing conclusions about Judaism and its beliefs you should actually use Jewish sources.

One crucial bit that she (and you) should know is that not everybody's actions in the Bible are considered to be moral. Another bit is that Judaism is a progressive religion and that means that as we move forward in time we learn more and more on how to behave morally. The moral code of the past seems brutal by today's standards. Hopefully it will always be so. The one thing you may have right is that the moral code of Osama and his lackeys is about two millenia behind our own.

To the editors of Jewcy: This ignoramus makes some suggestions that are just disgusting. You should be above publishing them. For example, the allegation that Channuka is a celebration of brutality and murder that is intentionally misrepresented to the world is typical of the drivel you would find in the protocols of the elders of zion. I like Jewcy but if I see more of this crap you'll have lost a devoted reader.

Wow,  reductio ad hitlerum in the very first post.  I thought I was low by resorting to personal insults in my first post but that last post far outdid me.  (Kudos by the way to Lebor for responding maturely.)     By Godwin’s second corollary, this thread should now be closed and Ismail declared the loser (what he lost I don’t know but those are the rules).  I’m going to respond anyways.

Ismail, I don’t see how anything you said is a critique of what I was saying and, except for that arabrein comment which I’ll address later, I think I agree with you.   If Lebow had written the same article but it was about the Yesha Council, it would have merited a similar response.   Hamas and Yesha have about as much reason to attend the Annapolis conference as the KKK has to attend a conference dedicated to the mending white-black relations in the south.    The big difference is that nobody is saying that the Annapolis negotiations are doomed to failure because the Yesha Council isn’t involved.

By the way, for those of you who are challenged on the Middle East conflict:  If you flip the argument around (replace Israelis for Arabs and vice versa) and the argument no longer makes sense then the argument doesn’t hold water.    Here’s an example from an article in the Guardian the other day that said that the Palestinians have no choice but to hate the Israelis because they only see them as the occupier.   Flip it around and listen to how ridiculous it sounds that  Israelis have no choice but to hate the Palestinians because they only experience them as suicide bombers.    Both statements are a load of crap.

Anyways Hamas is the current flag bearer of Arab rejectionism and the Yesha Council is the flag bearer of Greater Israel.    Both policies have been shown by history to be utter failures and, if you really want to work for peace, you should be working towards marginalizing the groups that support them.   Somehow the left repeatedly unfurls the banner of Arab rejectionism and waves it vigorously (as the non-leftist Lebor did above) so much so that it is now being adopted as their own flag.

About Ismail's arabrein comment.   First of all, it’s a hateful word.  It’s purpose is to demonize Israelis by claiming their actions are the same as those of the Nazi’s.  It’s roughly equivalent to demonizing Palestinians, Arabs or Muslims by saying that they are child murdering terrorists.   It’s not a word yielded by anyone who has a desire to resolve the conflict or work towards it’s resolution.   Besides that, I never understood what fantasy world people who use that word to describe the modern middle east live in.   It’s certainly not one where history or facts play a role.  The only thing I can imagine is that it’s some sort of pre-emptive propaganda strike that if they uses Arabrein then the accusation of the arabs having a policy of judenrein won’t be made.   If you look at the last century, arab populations have exploded and jewish populations have disappeared across the Islamic World.   Look  at Iraq, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Lebanon, Algeria, Yemen, Syria, Gaza, Hebron, etc…  How can anyone see this and claim that what’s really happening is that the jews are enacting a policy of arabrein?  I just don’t get it.  How exactly are the numbers lying here?   The argument must rest on some sort of convoluted logic that because some people say it should happen then it is happening.   Jewish populations under Arab and Islamic rule have  either vastly diminished or entirely disappeared and Arab populations under Jewish rule have increased.  In fact, most of the Arab countries have succeeded in making their lands effectively, if not entirely Jew free.   There is not a single example of a country of an arab or Islamic country where the Jewish population has actually increased over the last 50 or 100 years.   Even now, the so called moderate arabs (even the ones at Annapolis) are calling for the expulsion of every Jew from Judea and Samaria after already having Gaza made Judenrein.   I have to say that if indeed it is the Israeli plan to make Israel, Judea and Samaria Arabrein then they sure are tricky since their plan to reduce the population actually increases the population so that it seems like they are not actually decreasing the population.

Imagine if there were a universally celebrated Holiday in Germany that revered good relations between Germans and Jews and was symbolic of an ideal of good relations between all people.   Would you wan't to get rid of that too?

The problem with idiots like you is that you do nothing but tear down and destroy what is good.  It's very easy to say what is wrong with something and much more difficult to recognize what is right with it.  You are succesful in the former and incapable of the latter.

This Thanksgiving, I'm going to celebrate a holiday that honors coming to the aid of people in need, compassion and generosity and which allocates time for us to reflect on what we are thankful for in the world around us.   By celebrating it, my son is going to learn that these are important values and that he lives his life accordingly.  I will have time to look around and reflect on the positive things in the world and in my life that I am thankful for.

This Thanksgiving, as I'm thinking about what I am thankful for, I'll have one small addition.  I'm thankful that people like you aren't running this country.

Have a meaningful fast.  I'm going to have a meaningful Thanksgiving.

Nice article Joey,

A few things though.  It should be clear that Foxman (and Peres) said their ridiculous statements for political reasons alone.  And, let's be serious, it's probably a far stretch that anyone in either's organization agrees with these statements.  They were said simply because Turkey is Israel's only regional ally (and a powerful one at that) and Turkey made it clear to Israel that it was important to them.

I doubt that either Foxman or Peres were blackmailed into his statements because of concerns for Jews in Turkey.  They were blackmailed by the threat that Turkey-Israel relationships would suffer.   This whole incident does show, however, how deep Turkey and Israel's alliance runs when Turkey threatens our civilians there with physical harm to achieve a third-rate political objective.   Both Peres and Foxman have acted cravenly in their response.    By the way, if any Turkish pols happen to be reading this, this type of behavior won't get you into the EU (on second thought maybe it will).

Anyways, Peres' response as a politician has some justification.  It's not a good time to weaken alliances in the middle east.  Foxman, however, has no such excuse and it's wonderful that you (and others) have taken him to task.   Not only that, he's most likely irreparably damaged his organization moral standing.    The only way I can see that he could salvage the ADL's moral standing is by resigning and stating that his comments regarding the Armenian Genocide do not reflect the ADL's.
