RIP: Tom Lantos, 1928-2008

Rep. Tom Lantos (D-CA), a onetime member of the Hungarian anti-Nazi resistance, and the only Holocaust survivor ever elected to the US Congress, succumbed to cancer today, slightly more than a week after his 80th birthday. One of Lantos' last major political efforts was to spur action against the genocide in Darfur. He will be missed.
