Currently reading: Cormac McCarthy's All the Pretty Horses. Which shall forever make me think of one movie scene and one movie scene only throughout the history of cinema. I'm pulling this one out of the depths of my late-high-school and college-age memory, so forgive any inaccuracies:
CHET: At least, those are my thoughts. I'd be curious to hear yours.
OTIS: Wow, yeah, I think you, um, really nailed what it is about the book. It's, uh, violent. It's arousing. [looking at the back of the book] It's violently arousing.
CHET: Otis. Did you read this book?
OTIS: Yes! [beat] No.
CHET: Otis, I managed to read this whole book and form a few thoughts about it. If you're not going to take this seriously, maybe we should disband the book club now, before...feelings get hurt.
OTIS: It's just that I've got my dad with the mail fraud thing, and...last night, my mom caught me ordering porn.
CHET: Ouch.
OTIS: Yeah. She was angry like I've never seen her....
CHET: Yikes. [beat] Well, next week?
OTIS: Oh, absolutely! After hearing your description, it sounds like an excellent book.
Five points, by the way, to anyone who got the reference from the subtitle alone. To hell with the five points, actually -- just ping me, because we're obviously meant to be friends.
