As a new mother who hasn’t managed to take a bubble bath in over a year, I’m hugely intrigued by the phenomenon of the Jewish SPA!!!

And while I suppose this isn’t an altogether new idea (from hot springs in Israel to the steam room at the JCC) the addition of guided spiritual journeys, aromatherapy, reflexology, and massage makes this something worth consideration.

To be honest, I’m not sure if my husband is up for co-ed lavender oil rub-downs, or a class in “spiritual intimacy” but it certainly makes sense that increased physical calm and the removal of daily stress can help prepare you for a deeper level of understanding, a spiritual journey, a clearer picture of the world around you. Maybe even an openness to God.

And hey, wouldn’t that be a kickass Chanukah present!? Take your overstressed mother away to the Catskills for a day, and I bet everyone will benefit. Beware: Some seem a little more new-agey than others, and some look more like physical therapy than pampering, but there’s surely a mudbath out there with your name on it!
