  • A passenger of a small plane was able to avoid disaster by landing the plane in Florida after the pilot died just after takeoff.
  • Finally cashing in on his campaign promise to his daughters, President Obama has adopted a family dog. The dog, Bo, is a Portuguese water dog that is said to be energetic and ready to keep the girls on their feet.
  • Actor Mel Gibson’s wife Robyn has filed for divorce. The couple has been separated for three years after a marriage of nearly 30 years. They have seven children.
  • A top female Afghan politician from was shot dead by Taliban insurgents on her way back from a council meeting in southern Afghanistan. Sitara Achakzai was a strong supporter of women’s rights.
  • Internet book seller Amazon.com is under fire after sales rankings for a number of books dealing with homosexuality suddenly disappeared. Many have attacked Amazon for having an anti-gay bias, but a spokesperson said yesterday that it was merely a glitch and is in the process of being fixed.
