I dont get it. It doesn't take 2 minutes to give a street performer money nor does it take 2 minutes to explain that it does. Also, if you're only giving money away that you found, I'm not even entirely sure if that constites a mitzvah (and if it does, then whats the difference if you found it or it came out of your pocket?). And why is that rabbi asian? Heres a two minute mitzvah you can do - not posting volume 2.

Heh, well isn't the halakhic rule that if you find money and can't determine who the rightful owner is, you get to keep it? So choosing instead to give it to someone needier than yourself is, if not one of the hot 613, surely at least a mitzvah in the colloquial sense.

And as for why Rabbi Goldfarb may have some bit of Asian ancestry, I think you can assume it involves someone's unfortunate long-ago encounter with a Cossack. Perhaps you could be more sensitive.

And hey, if you don't like the subway mitzvah, which mitzvahs would you like to see the rabbi demonstrate/discuss?

And yes, Joey, I believe you're right about the letter of the law re lost money.  It's from Bava Metzia I think.  It also says there that any object which was found in a busy street and has no identification may be kept, the assumption being that whoever lost it in such a high-traffic spot would give up hope of finding it.

And what's more, it takes him 2 minutes (credits and bumper aside) to explain it. WHAT NOW, ANON?

I think the two minute mitzvah is great, true talent and creativity.

errr I'm no Rabbi but a mitzvah is a commandment isn't it, not an act of kindness, even if a commandment might end up being one. Like, it's a mitzvah to light candles or lay tephillin - it's not really an act of kindness. Anyways, it's a great thing to tell people to give money to charity. 10%. So, well done!

As an experiment, I logged out of my account to see for myself, and the "problems" in my subject line were what I saw on two separate occasions.

I think this series is a very nice idea. Doing kind deeds is, in fact, a mitzvah - that of loving one's neighbor as oneself (Lev. 19:18). Charity as mentioned above is yet another mitzvah (Lev. 25:35).
