I like it!

I wonder if there's a reasonable expiration date for a lobbyist, a certain number of years before they become indelibly corrupt by all the shady and unethical deals they must strike. Foxman has lost sight of the forest for the trees. I say keep the pressure on until the ADL can be restored to how it was originally envisioned.

9/11 denial

Dear Sirs (Madames),
Your activity is very praiseworthy, and it is directed to making our world better. I appreciate it very much.
I'd like to believe that you can easily join another decent action directed to the same goal. I mean the petition to Brussels Major Freddy Thielemans, who has banned a demonstration with a minute of silence to commemorate the victims of 9/11 on the 11th September in Brussels. I am afraid that his position signifies the beginning of prohibition in Europe of one of the fundamental freedoms--freedom of speech.
Address of petition where one has possibility to put his/her signature is

The petition itself:
To: Brussels Major
The Brussels mayor, the Socialist Freddy Thielemans, has, on 9th of August 2007 sent out a press release in which he has banned a demonstration with a minute of silence to commemorate the victims of 9/11 on the 11th sept in Brussels. The reason for the prohibition is that he says he cannot guarantee public safety and that he won’t disturb the Islamic section of the population in Brussels. By invoking the lack of public safety, he is precisely highlighting SIOE’s demonstration title:

SIOE’s message through the 4 slogans is exactly to warn against conditions such as these, where people no longer can use their freedom of expression and feel secure, but the shocking facts are that these conditions already reign at the heart of the EU. SIOE’s demonstration will of course happen, as a peaceful utterance of opinion, an utterance of opinion for which Moslems have countless times received permission to demonstrate in Brussels.

Therefore it is, of course, completely absurd to ban a peaceful demonstration because they are afraid of violent muslim counter-demonstrators!

We kindly ask the major of Brussels to alter his decision and let the free people of Europe demonstrate for their civil rights. We want our right to have a minute of silence to commemorate the victims of 9/11 !

Sincerely, The Undersigned

I propose you to distribute this petition using your large
list of people, who signed SPME appeal.

Sincerely yours,

Turkish Envoy: Israel Must Get Jewish Org's to Back Down

Will ADL condemn Turkey for expecting Israel to "deliver" American Jewish organizations and the US Congress? Shouldn't Abe Foxman condemn this sort of thing as the "deadliest" of lies?

http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1188128150149&pagename=JPost%...

Turkey expects Israel to "deliver" American Jewish organizations and ensure that the US Congress does not pass a resolution characterizing as genocide the massacre of Armenians during World War I, Turkish Ambassador to Israel Namik Tan told The Jerusalem Post Sunday.

Tan cut short a vacation and rushed back to Israel Thursday to deal with the Anti-Defamation League's reversal last week of its long-standing position on the issue.

Tan said he understood that Israel's position had not changed, but "Israel should not let the [US] Jewish community change its position. This is our expectation and this is highly important, highly important."

Tan said he understood that the American Jewish organizations were just that - American Jewish organizations. But "we all know how they work in coordinating their efforts [with Israel]," he added.

Israel & the Bush Adm. are on the wrong side of this argument.

Israel and the Bush administration are on the wrong side of this argument. The govenemnts of both states need to stand for the historical truth of these events - especially Israel since its foundation was based upon the genocide of the Jews in Europe.

The following (summary) article is a must-read for anybody who is for (or just does not know the facts for) the reasons behimd the resolution for the proper recognition of the genocide of Armenians by the US Congress.

Congress Must Recognize the Armenian Genocide
By Andrew G. Bostom
http://www.americanthinker.com/2007/08/congress_must_recognize_the_ar.ht...

A few excerpts:
Historian Johannes Lepsius' eyewitness accounts from Turkey documented the results of such invocations of jihad:

"559 villages whose surviving inhabitants were converted to Islam with fire and sword; 568 churches thoroughly pillaged, destroyed and razed to the ground; of 282 Christian churches transformed into mosques; of 21 Protestant preachers and 170 Armenian priests who were, after enduring unspeakable tortures, murdered on their refusal to accept Islam." Lepsius concluded with this rhetorical question: "Is this a religious persecution or is it not?"
****

Moreover the various "strategic rationales" and arguments put forth to oppose formal U.S. recognition (as in HR:/SR:106) of the Armenian genocide -- the U.S.-Turkish alliance, the Turkish-Israeli alliance, the vulnerability of Turkey's vestigial Jewish minority -- appear wanting and hackneyed in light of burgeoning evidence which undermines their basic credibility.

But most importantly, there is a compelling moral imperative to pass these resolutions which transcends the dubious geopolitical considerations used to rationalize and sustain Turkey's ongoing campaign of genocide denial. Professor Deborah Lipstadt, the renowned Holocaust scholar, and author of Denying the Holocaust, and History on Trial (which recounts her crushing defeat of Nazi-sympathizer David Irving's "libel' suit"), in conjunction with twelve other leading genocide scholars, elucidated the corrosive immorality of genocide denial in this 1996 statement:

Denial of genocide -- whether that of the Turks against the Armenians or the Nazis against the Jews -- is not an act of historical reinterpretation. Rather, it sows confusion by appearing to be engaged in a genuine scholarly effort. Those who deny genocide always dismiss the abundance of documents and testimony as contrived or coerced, or as forgeries and falsehoods. Free speech does not guarantee the deniers the right to be treated as the 'other' side of a legitimate debate when there is no credible other side"; nor does it guarantee the deniers space in the classroom or curriculum, or in any other forum. Genocide denial is an insidious form of intellectual and moral degradation...

Phantom

Apparently the Turks are

Apparently the Turks are convinced that there is a Zionist conspiracy and that Israel controls the U.S. How else does one explain the actions of the Turkish ambassador to Israel? And what if Israel actually delivers? Then maybe Amanpour can add this travesty to God's Jewish Warriors Part II, Israel Forces U.S. Congress to Deny Genocide!
