DAILY SHVITZ
Urgent Update: We Bloody Freakin WON!!!! ADL Goes Down!
TAGS:

The Town of Watertown is the first community in the nation to officially sever ties with the Anti-ADL And Its Program Run Out of Town for Genocide-Denial: Photo from the Watertown TAB & PressADL And Its Program Run Out of Town for Genocide-Denial: Photo from the Watertown TAB & PressDefamation League and the No Place For Hate program. Watertown rescinded the certification of No Place For Hate tonight with a vote of 8-0.

Here are some jewcy details:

Andrew Tarsy, New England Director and Minister of Disinformation for the Anti-Defamation League, got up and repeatedly lied about the ADL’s lobbying effort to defeat the congressional resolution. He then tried to interrupt an Arab American woman who was describing all the civil rights violations the ADL commits against Arab Americans. He was finally booed out of the Council Chambers.

Rumor has it, one Armenian fellow who is shorter than me (I'm 5 ft tall in my shoes) actually chased him down the hall. I didn't see it, but an unnamed member of the executive branch of our municipal government told me the story at an after hours meeting of the tri-lateral commission in a secret undisclosed location.

All told over 100 people were there. Mostly Armenians but a lot of others stood shoulder to shoulder with them. I suggested we take the sign down and ship it back to the ADL postage due. Other's took a less caustic approach and simply read from Foxman's anthology of asinine quotes. Suffice it to say that when the vote was finally taken the room exploded in applause. One Councilor asked the Town Manager to have the sign taken down first thing in the morning. But, within one hour of the vote, the sign was down thanks to an exceptional department of public works.

One gentlemen who has been flying a Confederate flag in protest of the sign tried to buy the sign from the DPW. Someone took a cell phone picture of him with the sign. We are now scrambling to find that picture for the Watertown TAB. Tomorrow he has promised to take down his Confederate Flag and stop whistling Dixie! I believe the TAB will be there to with a camera.

A few blocks away some kids were setting of fireworks. I'm sure it was completely unrelated to the sign coming down, but I could not help but recalling November 1989 when the citizens of East and West Berlin gathered around the “Wall” and started to sledge hammers to it, as fireworks were going off above.

All in all, common sense prevailed in Watertown. We hope that other communities will pick up on this and do likewise. I know some of us are planning to bring it to the attention of the Massachusetts Municipal Association.

I will be forwarding a DVD recording of the meeting to Joey Kurtzman so he can upload clips.

ADL deserved it

Maybe this will teach ADL that it can have honor and consistency (i.e. condemning hate and genocide wherever they are perpetrated, and no matter by whom or against whom they are perpetrated), or it can behave like a cheap political prostitute, but it can't do both at the same time.

If I lived in the area, I'd have shown up myself to tell the Town Council what ADL has become on Foxman's watch. I will never forget how ADL whitewashed genuine in-earnest anti-Semitic hate speech at MoveOn's Action Forum, but MoveOn's hate speech didn't actually kill anyone. The Ottoman Turks did. For ADL to downplay this or cover it up is reprehensible.

Perhaps Jewish organizations

Perhaps Jewish organizations in Watertown will lose their nonprofit status next

Confederate flag?

What does the Confederate flag have to do with an Armenian community in New England?  Was the guy protesting the sign because of his problem with the way Abe Foxman runs the ADL, or because of some kind of "actually, this IS a place for hate" statement?  This movement might create some really uncomfortable alliances.

ADL isn't polarizing. Not one bit.

I'm just curious: What lies was Tarsy telling about the ADL's lobbying? And what civil rights violations has the ADL committed against Arab Americans?

Confederate flag

For the record, the Confederate flag went up before the Armenians got involved with the issue. It was my protest symbol objecting to the Town Council's refusal to take down the sign and rescind the NPFH proclamation. The original complaint against the NPFH program was the possible criminalization of any individual who might have a variant view on any social, cultural or moral issue. In short: You cannot criminalize the other guy's opinion--unless you live in Joe Stalin's Russia, or North Korea.

"Stick It!" and other observations

First to Izzy’s query, the man flying the Confederate flag was chose that flag because it was the only symbol of rebellion he could think of.

Like many of us, we’ve been concerned with the “ultra-politically correct” mentality that permeates some in the NPFH advocacy circle. The language in the NPFH proclamation is just vague enough to be abused in a very Orwellian manner to stifle free speech and the freedom to express religious convictions.

Let me be clear, I’m not accusing the local NPFH committee of trying to be “Big Brother”. But the concern is legitimate.

Many others also believe that our municipal government ought to stick to fixing potholes, running schools, police, and fire. They have little time to waste on feel good measures, foreign intrigue, and pandering to Kumbaya Commissars.
Now, moving on to the Anon.

That absurd comment above by the Anon above speaks for itself. Watertown is not now, never has been, nor will it ever be anti-Semitic.

And for the record, neither am I.  If anything I’m Zionist, who like Menachem Began, refers to the West Bank as Judea and Samaria.

So Mr. or Ms. Spineless Anonymous, you can take your trumpet up charge of Anti-Semitism and do with them what a true “Rectal American” like yourself can do best.
Stick it!

Watertown MA has always been a welcoming community to everyone. We are a City of 4 square miles. All you need to do drive down our streets and see all the different ethnicities represented by the family owned businesses.

While Watertown does not have a particularly large Jewish representation, our neighbors directly north and south (Belmont and Newton respectively) has thriving Jewish Communities. These municipalities are directly adjacent and Watertown is so small that you can you drive from through it and no know if you are in Belmont, Watertown, or Newton.

Ethnicity, diversity, religious or ethnic tolerance has never been a serious issue in any of these Communities; we just treat all people with respect. The notion that we need ADL social engineers is anathema to us.  The only reason we’ve had to deal with twaddle like this is because of the influence of the neighboring Soviet directly east of us –- commonly known as the “The People’s Republic of Cambridge”.
