The UN Rally Against Ahmadinejad: Photos

Monday's rally against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the UN attracted the full spectrum of New York Jewry, from Conservadox to Hasidic and everything in between. I went during lunch hour and took some photos.

I wonder who comes across

I wonder who comes across worse here, Ahmadinejad, or his protesters?

Wow, these are great, Eli.

Wow, these are great, Eli. Thanks for posting them.

Nice Photo's

Other than the NK crowd and the anti-Arab guy, the protestor's came off well.

It would have been nice to see some of the same Jewcy crowd that was protesting Foxman there though.

Heh

Probably the Christians do, after seeing that God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater-esque guy in the fifth pic.

Okay, seriously, after looking at both those pictures side by side, the similarities are disturbing. It's like that guy said, "Better get into my Elliott Rosewater costume and head down to the rally.."

The Lions.

Lovin' the old Iranian nationalist dudes wrapped in the pre-Revolution flag. Best fuck you of all. The Pahlavi nostalgia takes it a bit too far, but if M.A. caught a glimpse of them, it probably spoke louder than all the Arab-haters there. The 'Expel the Arab enemy' boy is obviously too busy playing Halo 3 to realize that the Islamic Republic's treatment of Arabs can often be far worse than their treatment of Iranian Jewry. But then again, I think it comes as a shock to lots of grown-ups that there has always been a tension between Arabs as conquerers and the Arab-ness of Islam, and a real struggle to maintain the Persian language and cultural identity in spite of Islamic imperialism.

Iran: Nice people, modern legacy of shitty government

Great pics Eli. When I saw the old dudes wrapped in the Monarchist flag of Iran, one word came to mind: SAVAK. Plus que ca change, plus que c'est la meme chose.
