I love Sweden. It is, on the whole, a more pleasant society than the U.S. and surpasses the U.S. on many if not most quality-of-life indicators. However, these achievements are largely dependent on the homogeneous, consensus-seeking, law-abiding character of Swedish society, and cannot be recreated in the vigorous, colorful, disorderly culture of the United States.
