On the one hand...

On the one hand, I think that this is a very good critique of Mr. Berman's article...it is amazing that anyone can publish such a long and meandering piece in a major magazine and it is amazing how easy it is for people to be considered experts on subjects they don't really know that much about.

On the other hand, I strongly disagree with Schwartz' views about what's going on in the Muslim world and think his view of what qualifies as 'traditional Islam' is in many ways too narrow and in many other ways simply bizarre.
