hey rebecca,nice piece.two thoughts.one, they say that there is enough for everybody, that is abundance consciousness, that everyone does not want the same beach house. hard to really believe but that is their answer to your first point. 
two. if you really want to write on tv, or find out if you want to write on tv you should give the other network writers' room a try. i hope this does not seem like shameless self promotion since i did the interviews with the top tv writers, but the response from writers is that it has really clarified things for them, some now know they do want to write for tv, some can cross it off their list.  othernetwork.com
