i've seen the secret, and i'm actually about to attend the forum, but I'm not anticipating to achieve superhuman powers afterwards - something scientology use to promise (if you spent the right amount of money). after checking with the guy at the forum, i'm happy to report, there will be bathroom breaks.
the real secret to success: my hero and champion of overcoming great odds, vicktor frankle, said that if we aim high in our goals and expectations, there's a good chance we will come out with success and a taste for future success. if we aim average, there's a better chance we will come out subpar and empty handed.
from what i have read and experienced, i have discovered the secret to success is belief and persistence. meaning, it is your state of mind and a lot of hard work. so, instead of just thinking that i can become successful (which frankle argues against having that as your goal), you should believe that you are able to acheive your best in whatever your goal is.
did jonah salk set out to develop the polio vaccine because he wanted to be successful? i doubt it. i'm assuming (hoping) that his goal was to save individuals from the pain and suffering of polio. how many times did he fail in his attempt to create a vaccine? what would of happened if he gave up? he probably logged a lot of failed attempts, and if he had given up, someone else would have figured out, but he would have been left with the feeling of falling short in his ability to achieve - ick.
i like the idea of shooting for the seemingly impossible only to have something good happen, which is better than keeping it in the "idea" stage and and ending up with a pocket full of "if only..."
so, i believe in positive thinking, but i don't believe in obtaining superhuman strength, all the money in the world, and the hot looking guy in the hot looking car. i'll settle for being the best person I can be (yes, hokey) at whatever it is I want to be.
