It always upsets me when a Jew says something stupid.

If the Torah was as libertarian as Klinghoffer says, it wouldn't contain 613 mitzvot. Laws exist to keep the strong from trampling the weak.  To say that liberals/Democrats coddle the irresponsible at the expense of honest Americans' liberties while conservative/Republicans advocate responsibility and the consequences therein is just a recitation of a classic Republican trope. It would be just as unfair to say that Republicans are more God-like because they are more powerful and quicker to crush their opponents.  Ultimately, I think Mr. Klinghoffer's skewed generalizations are just a canard to hide the fact that he likes Republicans better because he thinks they're more pro-Israel.
