Wow, the five top Jewish comedies of all time. Are there any non-Jewish comedies? I like some of Ed Burns's stuff, and he's about as Irish as you get, but he still comes off as Woody Allen on crystal meth.
I'm a big Paul Mazursky fan. I think one of the best Woody Allen movies ever made was Mazursky's Scenes from a Mall. So I'll put that on the list, at least for now.
Blazing Saddles...While I agree that The Producers was absolutely great (Zero, Gene Wilder, Kenneth Mars, the incomparable Dick Shawn, playing Hitler as a power forward) I still bust a gut watching Blazing Saddles. And the end? When it spills over onto a Hollywood soundstage and the cowboys get into a free-for-all with like a hundred top-hatted, tuxedo'ed Busby Berkeley rejects? It don't get no better than that.
The Aristocrats...okay, there were a few non-Jews in the mix, notably Phyllis Diller and Sarah Silverman, but it was funny as hell, especially the extra commentary, where Paul Reiser and Kevin Pollack and others were able to get off-topic and tell some of their favorite jokes.
Airplane...for several years, before the Farrelly Brothers came along, the Zuckers and Mr. Abraham (do I have that right? or were they the Abrahams and Mr. Zucker?) had a stranglehold on the funniest movies in America. Not sure if Airplane was the funniest (the Hot Shots movies were great, too) but they were all a helluva lot funnier than Ghost, except for the part where the little monsters take the bad people to hell.
The Three Stooges...as great as The Big Lebowski is, I just can't really include it as a Jewish comedy (John Goodman's conversion notwithstanding)...but The Stooges? Even without Iggy, these guys were the funniest muddahfuddahs ever, bar none...in my book, The Marx Brothers are William Kristol, Paul Wolfowitz, and Richard Perle compared to Larry, Moe, and the original Curly (the funniest person in the history of western civilization, including Emeril Legasse, Tiny Tim, and the late Alfredo Stroessner).
