no one is perfect

it's a common assumption that the Orthodox are immune to outside influences. in reality, they're not. we just never hear about it.

i've heard stories of Orthodox men hanging out at Fetish parties and strip clubs. they go to look but not to touch. that's the other thing...it's always the men and not the women who are engaging in such behavior. i'm sure there are several Orthodox women who are unhappy in their marriages, but they have no means of expressing their sadness except anonymously over the Internet. the same applies to gay Orthodox Jews (both men and women). the only way they can be free is by leaving the community altogether.

in a way, i think it's good that the Orthodox are able to explore secular means of personal expression. but on the other hand, it can be bad to be exposed to too much as it will leave them confused and frustrated with their lives and marriages. there is a whole book about such a topic called 'The Unchosen' by Hella Winston. it's highly recommended if you want a look at the secret lives of this unique community.
