I thank you, anonymous commenter, for your comments, but I'm afraid
it's you who needs to do some real research. There is no doubt that the
Palestinians, and Arafat especially, deserve a great deal of blame for
the collapse of Camp David (and I made no assertion in the article to
the contrary), but the simplistic version put forth in its aftermath by
Ehud Barak, in as self-serving a move as one can imagine, is false on
its face. Indeed, Ross' book contains some refutation of this version
where everyone except the Palestinians escapes blame, as does Bill
Clinton's book  My Life.
More information can be found in the book to which I linked in the
article, as well as Aaron David Miller's excellent new book, The Much Too Promised Land. For a very comprehensive post-mortem on the conference, you can also look at The Camp David Summit - What Went Wrong? edited
by Shimon Shamir and Bruce Maddy-Weitzman, which includes perspectives
from all sides: American, Israeli and Palestinian, including many
participants in teh negotiations as well as Ehud Barak.

I hope you will take some time to learn
about this tragic episode that has caused so much suffering, because it
is very important for all of us to understand what happened there.
