The second quote clearly favors study over good deeds. While third quote clearly favors deeds over study. Taken together, I cannot see how you arrive at an "exclamation mark" favoring good deeds over study (btw, study is not the same as good thoughts). Moreover, there are other quotes in favor of study that I could use - these three just came to mind.
A question to consider: What is wrong with recognizing that there exists tension within a tradition? Not sure that you think there is anything wrong with it, but I am assuming because of your post.
