That's a great question. 

Yeah, your friend is Jewish! That is to say, she was born with a Jewish soul.

If the conversion was done properly.

But if her mother changed religons, then maybe the conversion was done improperly, because the convert wasn't sincere. Then she's not really Jewish. Because once you are a Jew, you're in it for life.

 Ask a Rav. This is a gr8 question!
