Equal opportunity?

"What’s interesting is how that particular lust is no longer the sole
province of the male beast. The enfranchisement of males at the expense
of females (particularly Jewish males and Jewish females) is coming to
an end. Firmly ensconced in the middle and upper classes, our
generation of Jewish women find power, and its application (sexual, or
otherwise), far less problematic than their predecessors."

I think that equal opportunity for sexual (mis)adventure, while in and of itself certainly no bad thing, doesn't necessarily mean equal enfranchisement. For instance, JSpot has an interesting exploration of the fact that women are 32% more likely to get subprime mortgages than men, despite as a rule having higher credit ratings.

Sexual freedom for everyone is something I'm greatly in favor of. Women having sexual freedom is also plainly something heterosexual men have a vested interest in. I've noticed a few things: Sometimes, this sexual freedom is only encouraged insofar as it means "freedom to have more sex, especially with me and my buds." I'm often suspicious when a straight man says "Women are more free to have sex, and isn't that great for them!" Sometimes, what is under the surface is "Women are more free to have sex with me, and isn't that great for me!" This explains something of Tila's attraction.

So before we start lauding the culture that encourages more sex in women as equally as it does in men, or indeed condemning it for making women "beastly," let's see if that really translates into sexual equality or political and economic equality. And I think, no, not yet.
