I find the "return to the reason for the season" sentiment amusing. The true origin of Christmas is a group of pagan holidays that were later given a "Christian" message. The offenders include Yule (a pagan Scandinavian festival) and Saturnalia (a pagan Roman festival where formal laws are suspended for a time). Reading from Matthew closely, one should draw the conclusion that Yashua was never born on Dec. 25, but could draw the conclusion that he was born around early October.
Nowhere in the "New Testament" is it commanded or suggested that one should celebrate Yashua's birthday, even if a person knew when it was. On the other hand, we see him keeping Passover, Tabernacles, the disciples later keeping Firstfruits, etc...
I'm all for people knowing the "reason for the season," and understanding the "meaning of Christmas," and for people developing "the good judgment to drop it altogether."
