| Even Libertarians Should Agree that Neo-Nazis Have No Place in the US Government | |

Here's the thing: as a radical libertarian, I somewhat favored Paul as a candidate, though since I'm a libertarian socialist, he is not my ideal choice. But to me, his willingness to accept money from neo-Nazis elicits echoes of Europe’s re-embracement of right-wing extremism, the attendant resurrection of ethnic nationalism, and the growing success of far-right parties, many of which have taken over large swaths of European parliaments. This should be a cause of great concern to those of us in the antifascist community.
They say such things could never happen in America, but guess what: Here it is.
Now, I want him out of the running, and frankly, out of the Capitol. Those who pander to white nationalists and neo-Nazis have no place serving in the United States government, which exists to serve the most ethnically and culturally diverse nation on Earth, which counts among its citizens Jews and Zionists alike.

I don't think it's really
I don't think it's really fair to say that Paul is "pandering" to them. I think you are being a little bit hysterical and well paranoid about it. Don Black, the "neo-Nazi" has stated that Paul does not share his views on race, but only on issues pertaining to national sovereignty (i.e. withdrawing from supra-national organizations the US belongs to , the UN, NATO, WTO, etc.). Black may or may not believe that a "Jewish Conspiracy" is behind these organizations, but there is nothing in Paul's statements or writings to suggest that he believes the same. Paul's argument is that these organizations are unconstitutional, Black's argument is conspiracy; one is grounded in reasoned logic, the other in anti-Semitic hysteria. I think that someone as smart as you could figure out the difference and so you are just playing Internet politics. You were wrong about Paul talking to the Jewish magazine, and you are also wrong about Paul "pandering" to neo-Nazis. Finally, as for why Paul has not distanced himself from them, he has basically decided to ignore them. Any publicity at this point would only be negative. If he does give back Don Black's check, you will only complain about how long it took, and that he is still a neo-Nazi since Black still supports him. As Sullivan has written, Paul didn't chose Don Black. Black chose him, just as he did Bush, Dole, and Reagan.

Silly and hysterical. The
Silly and hysterical. The 'hard' theory of Interest-Group Politics is untenable, and there's no particular reason to think that accepting a campaign contribution from anyone necessarily results in a quid pro quo. Although I am critical of Paul on many issues, he should take the money of anyone who is willing to give it to him, white supremacist or otherwise, with a clean conscience.

Daniel, are you saying that white nationalists do not contribute to the cultural diversity of this nation? In my eyes I do not see any diference between your level of prejudice and that of a white nationalist. Think about it.

Not All Hate the Same
Vrezh,
There's quite a bit of difference between Daniel's level of prejudice and that of a neo-Nazi. Daniel doesn't hate "white nationalists" simply because they are white nationalists. He hates them because they hate him first. And they hate him simply because of his religious or ethnic background, something he cannot control. He can't help being Jewish, but they can help being assholes and hate-mongers.

Hate
Phantom,
I was talking about the level not form of prejudice. One's ethnic or religious background is not a shield or excuse from being just as much of an asshole and hater as one labeled as such. According to your theory Abe Foxman also can not help being a Jew, but he sure showed us how much of an asshole and a hater he is. Actually, I have more respect for someone that hates me directly and openly than one that screams of friendship, but stabs me in the back.

vrezh - don black, abe
vrezh -
don black, abe foxman, jerry falwell, rehavam ze'evi. all well documented believers that some humans' lives are worth less than others. anyone who believes that deserves as much hatred as we can spare at any given moment. unfortunately, only two of them have stopped putting their beliefs into action.
