This is why I’m glad that my mother is both a convert and a chemist. My entire upbringing was suffused with the teachings of a hard-core Jewish former-Evangelical-Christian with an MSc in chemistry. She’s actually told me that for her, learning chemistry brought her closer to G-d, that she felt she was learning how He created the universe. My upbringing was everything a 12th century Spanish rabbi or a 19th century German Orthodox rabbi with a broad humanistic and scientific university education could have ever hoped for. (I’m speaking of Rambam/Maimonides and Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch.)
