“Gypsy Music” and “Yiddish Music” Aren’t the Same Thing
By Jason Diamond / March 3, 2010I think the people at Trend Hunter may have gotten the memo that Jews and gypsies aren’t the same, but maybe they just gave it a quick glance and forgot? Also, aren’t we about six years into the "gypsy music trend"? Doesn’t that take the luster off the "trend" tag?
"And don’t forget the DJ’s either! Groups like Balkan Beat Box are proving maybe it was a good idea to hold on to all those Klezmer albums bequeathed to you by your Yiddish grandmother (not quite gypsy music, but you get the point). Rare cuts like that those are providing great loops for the latest gypsy remixes"

…ease your loved ones into Klezmer. Or so it would seem.
I grew up listening to klezmer and polka…I have both an ear and a love for it. And I know that I can’t be the only rock and roll kid who grew up with violins and clarinets in the house. But holy crap, if a guy mentions klezmer music at a party to cute girls, suddenly tumbleweeds start rolling by. Even some older people shake their heads.
Personally, if it takes the Gypsy stuff to rope in a Klezmer girl, I’m buying it.
