FEATURED ARTIST

Featured Artist: Adela Leibowitz

The Green Manor - Adela Leibowitz
42x44, oil on linen, 2007

This blue/green series of little girls is influenced by the tradition of romantic pastoral scenes; theatre set design, and classic suspense cinema such as Hitchcock. Research ranging from the Salem Witch Trials to the tales of Alice in Wonderland was undertaken, as well as my fascination with rituals and the hidden nature of the unknown. Every painting fuses both the innocent and the diabolical into one cohesive environment. Within a seemingly real/unreal world, the girl is used as a conduit for investigating and portraying gender taboos, iconic symbols, fantasies, fears and nightmares.
